I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling a little down about what I’m hearing from the media about our Church, the Body of Christ. Don’t worry, I’m not about to go on another rant about the sc…in fact, I’m not even going to mention the word.
Instead, what I’d like to do today is give everyone an opportunity to share some good news! Post what you are thankful for today! Do you have a story about your church you’d like to share? Has someone inspired you in the last week? Is there something you’d like to share about your family?
Let’s Thank God It’s Friday!
I’m thankful for God’s gift of my boyfriend who truly lives his Catholic faith. This is the first relationship where I feel 100% respected, safe, confident, in control of my decisions, desired but not lusted after, cherished, and free to open up, be vulnerable and ultimately to love! I’m looking forward to spending time with him this weekend! A priest once told me to invite Jesus as the third wheel on all my dates, so I hope Jesus’s presence blesses us this weekend!
I’m very thankful for my parish and our wonderful priests. We have 3 morning masses each day with the 8am one I attend having usually 100-200 people. We have a “little church” also that is open 24/7 and rarely have I been there to find no one there. On Thursdays is Perpetual adoration in this Little Church also. I could go on and on but I won’t. I know having a parish like this is a HUGE blessing. Thanks be to God!
I am thankful for my faith, and being able to go to church and events around the archdiocese. It can be really random when I can get to church or those events because of working in the Entertainment Department (ER), but it does so much to strengthen my faith when I can. I’m also thankful for my team in the ER because they make the nights fun!
Thank you, Jesus, for the hardship of this week. There have been problems that have risen each day, and while I was tempted into great anxiety and distress, the Lord persisted in asking for the yoke off my back. Through prayer, talking with my fiancee, and the support of my family I was and am able to see the temorary-ness of all these “problems” – hopefully growing in virtue as I hand all these problems over to our mother, Mary – once again. Praise you, Lord! You are worthy!
My daughter had a boyfriend like Thankful Lady’s (above). The two were married this past Saturday in Flint, Michigan. The wedding Mass was so well done that the reception was almost anti-climactic. At the Mass, about a dozen musicians (groom is a Music grad student @ UM/Flint) including strings and brass, an appropriately Christocentric homily by Fr Dennis Howard, the couple venerated Fr’s large Divine Mercy image in the sanctuary — truly a liturgy that exalted the Lordship of Jesus as much as possible in the context of the Sacrament of Matrimony. Safe travel for us and family/friends who drove from PA to MI to attend. So very much to be grateful for! Thank you, Lord!!
PS. Groom and his brothers have an awesome Catholic band: http://www.thickerthanwatermusic.com/index.shtml
I am grateful for the life of my Uncle Roy, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, surrounded by his wife and sons. He was a faithful man who cared passionately about social justice, and was vibrant and active until the last two weeks of his life.
Below is a brief bio from when he was on staff at the National Cathedral, and an overview of a book he recently published:

Thank you Lord for the precious gift of Pope Benedict.
Happy 83rd Birthday Holy Father!!
Laura, great post! I am thankful for an ever-increasing faith in our Lord!
I am eternally grateful that God gave me the gift of faith to pray for His Divine Will in my life every day. I thank Him for His Divine Mercy and His abundant outpouring of grace in my life and the lives of other people … the postings on this blog is a fine example ^_^
Thank you, Lord for Your gifts of faith, mercy, love, joy, peace, hope, family and friends.
