Update: What Did Jesus Look Like?

A little over a week ago I posted on the question, What Did Jesus Look Like? Among the things we discussed, was what data the Shroud of Turin supplied. Many consider it authentic (including me). But even for those who do not it can still aid in our speculation of what Jesus may have looked like. Now it seems that the History Channel will be airing a special on March 30th from 9-11pm EDT  that considers the data from the shroud, and using forensic science and other methods, seeks to present three-dimensional renders of the “man of the shroud.”

While the Archdiocese of Washington cannot endorse TV shows in any official way, nevertheless, as an update on my previous post I want to inform you of this interesting looking addendum to our previous discussion. The home page for this projest is Here: http://www.raydowning.com/  And this is a video trailer of the project.

  1. Msgr Pope,

    I watched the show the other night.

    To be honest, I walked away with this question. OK? What difference does it make?

    I know human beings yearn to identify with physical appearances (ethnic and cultural identities).
    Yes, Jesus had to pick an identity and Jewish was it. He couldn’t walk around like a chameleon and satisfy all of our human urges to identify with him in a physical way (appearance and ethnicity), but he certainly can identify with us in a spiritual way and share in our human needs and desires. This is common in all men.

    Personally, I see Jesus Christ in a more 3 demensional way, but it took me many years to get to this point.

  2. I thank you for the link, I would like to believe this is what my Father and Savour looks like.
    He is so awesome but (his word said) that he was so ordinary there was not physically attractive that any one would desire him (Issiah 53:2 “For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.”)
    This guy does not look ordinary his eyes (whatever colour) His eyes they are so enchanting his face is so angelic, honest, adorable and GOD like and funny Respectable too i.e. I do not think movie star adoration more like looking of a picture of my dad or granddad when they were young….lol
    • May be everyone at that time was that GOOD LOOKING right and that was considered ordanary. But I believe he looks different remember when He resurrected his friends could’nt recognise him
    Mary Magdala : At first she did not recognize him and thought that he was a gardener. When he said her name, she recognized him.
    To the disciples (not including Thomas) on that same day. They were indoors “for fear of the Jews.” Jesus entered and stood in their midst while the doors were shut.
    I believe he will come in the form that the Disciples got so faintish about ON THE MOUNT OF CONFIGURATION or wait like in In Revelation 1:12-16, John describes the glorified Jesus this way:
    And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
    And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
    His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
    And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
    And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

    God Bless You my friend Diann your sister in Christ Jesus our Lord
