Deacon Curtis Turner

I am Deacon Curtis Turner. I was born in the District of Columbia and educated in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Washington.  I was ordained a permanent deacon in 2008 and am assigned to St. Mark the Evangelist Parish in Hyattsville, Maryland.  I am married and live in Maryland.  Currently, I serve as the principal of the oldest historically African-American Catholic school in the United States, Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore.  Pope John Paul II said, “Among the duties of the deacon there is that of promoting and sustaining the apostolic activities of the laity.”  In other words, like most permanent deacons, I am challenged in my clerical state to be more present and active in the secular world than others in Holy Orders.  Therefore, I hope to blog about effective ways of integrating our faith into the secular world and the daily development of our Catholic spirituality.
