Life is a Dance! A Simple Idea Writ Large

Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing (Ps 30:11)

Let them praise his name with dancing, (Ps 149:3)

a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance (Eccl 3:4)

I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out to dance with the joyful. (Jer 31:4)

Then maidens will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow. (Jer 31:13)

They send forth their children as a flock; their little ones dance about. (Job 21:11)

and while they dance they will sing: “In you all find their home” (Psalm 87:7)

  1. The Lord gifted me through this video! I’m a full-time caregiver for my husband. He has Parkinson’s and as his disease progresses, I am burning out. I’m the co-chair of our Respect Life Committee and the other co-chair told me today at a meeting that I looked horrible and that I needed to do something for fun – like dancing. I said that dancing was not the answer and that I’d like to go on a retreat and/or sleep. Watching this put a smile on my face. It wasn’t the answer to my situation but it was a band-aid. Thanks. 🙂

  2. There are several songs out there entitled “Lord of the Dance”. I love Steven Curtis Chapman’s:

The world beneath us spins in circles
And this life makes us twist and turn and sway
But we were made for more than rhythm with no reason
By the one who moves with passion and with grace
As He dances over all that He has made

I am the heart, He is the heartbeat
I am the eyes, He is the sight
And I see clearly, I am just a body
    He is the life
I move my feet, I go through the motions
But He gives purpose to chance
    I am the dancer
He is the Lord of the dance

  3. Please spend a post addressing everything coming out of Rome and the Vatican – we need to hear from you. Thanks.

    1. Boy, I’ll tell you, I don’t have a clue about all that stuff. I have never been a follower of Roman intrigue and rumors. Right now it sounds awful, but please remember the secular media is largely driving it all and it is rooted in a document of some sort that no one has seen. I have heard for years, like many others have of some sort of “lavender mafia” in the Church. But honestly I have never encountered it. It may be there I just don’t know.

As for Vatican politics etc, I just don’t walk in such circles or even know “insiders” I have never even been to Rome. So count me among your number, those on the sidelines, scratching their heads and wondering.

I will say it is and AT ALL helpful that the Vatican press office has “no comment” as to whether the Pope resigned over something related to this matter even remotely connected to it, say due to discouragement or heartbreak. Come on Fr. Frederico, throw us a life line here, the enemies of the Church are having a field day and the faithful need a word!

      1. The “lavender mafia.” That’s a new one on me. I wonder if they take you to a secret place where you witness the “transgenderation” in order to become a made member.

  4. Amen. Plato taught that education should consist of gymnastics and geometry. If you combine those two the result is dancing.

  5. One would wonder why no reference is made in the New Testament about Jesus or the apostles dancing if it’s considered a spiritual expression. I can’t say I see dance as a expression of worship of God but rather a stimulus of the senses and emotions; not that there is anything necessarily wrong with it if it doesn’t reach the level of lewdness. I personally always feel awkward or somewhat of being an exhibitionist when dancing in public, however I can enjoy watching well choreographed performances. Dance for the most part is an art form not a spiritual worship of God. It’s good exercise so dance on and leave out the pole.
