Sybilia is a reference to the the Sybiline Oracles. You can read more of that here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sibylline_oracles
They were Greek prophetesses who wrote in Greek meter. If any particular Sibyl is meant it is probably the Erytrhaean Sibyl. However, in this song "David and Sibyl" seem more generically to stand for Jew and Gentile. Both worlds looked to a firey end to this world

Could you tell me who Sybila is? What association has David cum Sybila in the Requiem? Is that the David who wrote the psalms in the Old Testament and the sybil is an angel? Why are they referenced here?

Oh my I am sorry for your loss. I have buried both my parents in the past five years and know that it is quite a powerful and difficult time. May your mother rest in peace. I very much appreciate both these URLs. I was unware that the Catholic Funeral readings were online. I like your hymn selection too. Soul Adorn Thyself...is one of my favorites. It is a calming melody and a beautiful text. God bless you,

Having been told last week that my mother would likely die before the end of this week, I took this past Friday off (incidentally, my 44th birthday) to spend some time picking readings and hymn for her funeral. I found this website helpful for the readings:
http://www.domcentral.org/preach/funerals/ and this one for the hymns: http://www.lutheran-hymnal.com/online/hymn_scripture_index.html

I’m glad I figured the readings/hymns on Friday for my mother passed away Monday morning, rather sooner than my sister & I expected.

First Reading:	Zephaniah 3: 14-20
Epistle Reading:	Romans 5: 1-11
Gospel Reading:	John 14: 1-6

Comfort, Comfort Ye My People
On Christ’s Ascension I Now Build
Soul, Adorn Thyself with Gladness
Be Still My Soul

We sang a requiem mass in Latin for All Souls and it included the Dies Irae as the sequence. Your English version is much better than the one in our worship aid. I know just enough Latin to know that the English versions we get most of the time are awful.

Thank you for this post on the Dies Irae. Heavy, somber, and Glorious!
Indeed a missing element in modern funerals.
The Dies Irae belongs to what I like to call the "Grown up" or "Adult" Faith.
It certainly reminds us to: Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. - Phil. 2:12

Yes you can. I don't think it can be sung as a sequence hymn (i.e. right before the Alleluia) but it can be sung at the Offertory or post communion just like any sacred song or hymn.

Ah, the eagle eyes of my readers, even catching an error in the Latin text. You are right of course. I will correct that later this morning. It will take more time since I have to repost the pdf. But thank you for catching it.
